Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park

Akagera national park is a home to the big five animals (buffalo, rhino, elephant, leopard and lion) in Rwanda. It is the best destination for wildlife encounter. Also, it is at the border with Tanzania and derives its name from River Akagera which flows through this national park.

This biodiverse national park is a mixture of swamps, woodlands, rivers, lakes (about 10 lakes in this park), savannah, and terraced hills. Therefore, this  favors the flourishing of the wildlife in this park. This park is just 110 km away from Kigali in north eastern part of Rwanda and can take 3 hours by road from Kigali international airport.

After forming the Akagera management company in 2010, the government has done a lot to restore the national park. Also, most of the wildlife which was extinct is now available  to the park.
