Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park home of Mountain Gorillas

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is the top destination for gorilla trekking in Uganda. And the whole world- the ultimate gorilla experience. The distance to Bwindi park is about 530 km from Entebbe international airport. Take one hour by air and around 10 hours by road. Mountain gorillas  rare primates and endangered, inhabiting in the Virunga mountains shared by Uganda, Rwanda and Congo and also in Bwindi which is in Uganda. Therefore, Uganda has two national parks as homes to mountain gorillas.

Gorilla permits

To visit mountain gorillas, you need to have a permit called gorilla trekking permit. Issued by Uganda wildlife authority in Uganda. This permit costs $700 and effective 1st of July 2024 t will cost $800 per person for foreign nonresident.  Also book a permit to participate in gorilla habituation. Where you take part in experiment of getting the gorillas used to the presence of human beings. Mountain gorillas live in families and each family headed by a silverback as undisputable leader. Each family habituated and that means that the gorillas will not change their behaviors due to the presence of human beings. They are used to them.

Bwindi home to about 18 families  distributed in four sectors of Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija, Nkuringo and each family vary in members. There is also another family in Mgahinga gorillas national park. Therefore, with different sectors, Bwindi is a top destination for gorilla trekking activity in the whole world. Gorillas are in big numbers more than anywhere else.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi has more advantages. Because it is cheaper compared to Rwanda where a gorilla permit goes for $1,500. This puts Uganda at an advantage and this is a reason why some tourists prefer to travel from Kigali to do gorilla trekking in Bwindi on Uganda side. Therefore, for the best experience with a budget friendly and advantage of having big numbers, Bwindi is the best choice for gorilla trekking in Africa.
