Semuliki National Park

Semuliki national park is referred to as the true birders haven. And lies on the floor of Semuliki valley the 160 km long park of the Albertine lift valley. It is located between lake Edward and lake Albert. This valley which is shared by Uganda and Congo contain wildlife from both central and East Africa.

Semuliki national park is a rich biodiversity destination and represent the eastern end of the Congo jungle. That is why the species of Congo and Guinea and East African biomes are both found in this amazing forest.

The park is a home to 53 mammal species which include the 11 primates that can be trekked in different trails of the park. There are 435 bird species in this park which confirms the name of the true birders haven including the rift valley endemic birds.

The most and famous attraction

The hot springs both male and female found near the park offices at Sempaya. The female spring-Nyansimbi (which means a female ancestor) is a boiling geyser that spurts bubbling water and stream up to two meters high. Meanwhile, visitors buy eggs locally to put in the boiling pools that surrounds the central spout.

Activities in this park include game drive. Small and short trails can lead to spot forest and savanna elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, Uganda cobs and crocodiles. On lucky days you can sight lions, bush babies and leopards.

Forest and primates walk through Migiri river forest is another guided tour in Semuliki national park. There is a number of short trails for nature lovers and birding enthusiasts.

This park can be accessed by air or by road. By air chartered flights can land at Toro Semuliki wildlife reserve while road transfer can access through Kampala Fort Portal-Mubende or Kampala-Fort Portal Via Mbarara-Kasese which is a logger route.
