Welcome to the 16 days Discover Uganda Safari which is full adventure and unmatched fun. The safari combines the gem of wildlife in the national parks and community experience with city tour encounters. This trip covers Murchison falls National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Lake Mburo national park. You will also visit Kampala and Entebbe cities for urban tour as you conclude your trip. Is Kampala indeed the most chaotic city with its boda-boda motorbikes everywhere? Safari destinations

Murchison Falls National Park

The Safari starts from Murchison Falls National Park which is known as the top destination for tourists due to the wonders in this park like rapid falls, 4 out of the big 5 animals etc. It is found in the western region of Uganda and covers districts like Masindi, Buliisa, Amuru, Pakwach, Kiryandongo and Nwoya. The park covers 3840 Sq. km and is the oldest national park in Uganda. This park is a home to 76 mammal species including 4 members of the big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo). You can also encounter Rhinos at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary. Other animals to expect in this park include crocodiles, water bucks, giraffes, warthogs, Uganda kobs, hartebeest, Hippos, Bushbucks, Oribis, hyenas and various bird species like black bee eater, rare shoebill stork, weavers, grey crowned cranes, Abyssinian ground hornbill, Black-headed lapwing, Red throated bee eater among others.

Kibale Forest National Park

From there you will proceed to Kibale Forest National Park “primate’s capital” found in Kabarole district. It has about 13 primate species including monkeys, baboons and chimpanzees. The major activity here is chimpanzee trekking where you will explore the forest with the highest number of chimpanzees in Uganda. Some of the primates include colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, Olive baboons, Anubis baboons etc.  They are all for the exploration on this amazing trip. The park also harbors over 375 species of birds like African pied wagtail, Great blue turaco, Pin-tailed whydah, Slender-billed weaver, Tropical boubou etc.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

After Kibale Forest National Park, you will you will visit Queen Elizabeth National Park the 6th diverse national park in the world. It has beautiful features such as Kazinga Channel, Crater lakes, Savannah plains etc. On your mazing boat cruise, you will spot highest concentration of hippos along the Kazinga channel and other mammals and cats not forgetting the famous tree climbing lions.  There are more than 600 bird species like grey crowned cranes, Martial eagle, shoebill, African green pigeon, handsome francolin, Nubian wood pecker, swamp flycatcher, African skimmer etc.

Bwindi impenetrable Forest National Park

Thereafter, you will then proceed to Bwindi impenetrable Forest National Park a home to 54% of the world remaining mountain gorillas. The park has about 459 Mountain Gorillas with 21 habituated families living in all the sectors of the park which include Buhoma, Rushaga, Nkuringo, and Ruhija. You will spend a day tracking mountain gorillas, taking their pictures and enjoying their behavior however, you will have a chance to visit these amazing primates very close in their natural habitats and lastly you will visit the Batwa community and know their way of living.

 

Lake Bunyonyi

Located in the extreme border between Uganda and Rwanda and it is known for offering a great rest and relaxation to travelers due to its beautiful and breathtaking views.  Lake Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda having 29 different Islands, a fresh climate to relax from and also a clear view of the Virunga Mountains.

Lake Mburo National Park

One of the smallest parks in Uganda. It is a home to a variety of wildlife including Zebras, Impalas, buffaloes, bush pig, topi, crocodiles, elands, buffalos, oribi, waterbuck, leopard etc. Bird species like African Fin foot, pied kingfisher, bare faced go away, Red faced barbet, Greater painted snipe, Blue breasted kingfisher, striped kingfisher etc.  Here you will relax and enjoy the scenery. The Park’s topography and vegetation are made of falling and raising hillsides, rocky outcrops, open and wooden grassland, rich acacia tree valleys, forests, bushes and thickets together with permanent and seasonal swamps along the shores of the Lakes.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe international airport – Transfer to your hotel

Day 1 of 16 Days Discover Uganda Safari will start with a pick up from Entebbe International Airport by Our professional driver guide from Mutanda Gorilla Tours who will meet and greet you. He will brief you about your 16 Days Discover Uganda Safari. He will transfer you to your hotel in Kampala. You will relax and recover from your long hours of flight. Dinner and overnight Stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison falls National Park via Zziwa rhino sanctuary for Rhino tracking – Evening Game Drive

Rise up early morning for a hot breakfast and get ready to hit the road with your driver guide to Murchison falls national park via Ziwa rhino sanctuary for Rhino Tracking. You will make a stopover in Ziwa, you will track white rhinos. This sanctuary is where you can sight rhinos at a close range in the presence of the ranger guide. But also you can see some antelopes, bush bucks, Uganda kobs, oribis, waterbucks and some bird species like Grey-Crowned Crane, Shoebill, African Fish Eagle, African Jacana, and Marabou Stork among other bird species can be sighted.  You will then proceed to your lodge to check in as you get ready for evening game drive.

Later, proceed for a Unique evening game drive with an armed park ranger and spotlight torches which will enable you view the predators as they hunt like hyenas, leopards, lions, bush babies, hippos among others. Dinner and overnight Stay.

Day 3:  Murchison Falls National Park – Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Boat Cruise

You will wake up early morning for a hot breakfast on this day and start game drive through different trails in the park like Buligi trail, Albert trail, Victoria trail and others where you will be able to spot animals like elephants, giraffes, warthogs, elands, Uganda cobs and big cats like lions and leopards. Buffaloes are also spotted in big numbers in this national park. After this game drive, you go back to the lodge for lunch as you get ready for the afternoon boat cruise.

Later in the afternoon, embark on an afternoon boat cruise upstream to the bottom of the falls. You will see the Nile crocodiles resting on the shores, giraffes, Bufaloes, herds of hippos while in water, bird species like the black bee eater, grey crowned crane, marabou stork and many others, you will have a view of the magnificent Murchison falls as it roars and pours its waters through a narrow gorge. The experience lasts for three hours. You will then return to your lodge for evening relaxation, dinner and overstay.

Day 4: Murchison Falls National Park – Morning Game drive – Hiking to the top of the falls and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

You will wake up early morning for a hot breakfast on the 4th Day of the 12 Days Gorilla, Chimpanzee & Wildlife Adventure Safari. You will head out for a morning game drive in the park where you will spot different animals like elephants, Giraffes, warthogs, lions, Leopards, Buffaloes in both the savannah and forested part of Murchison falls.

After this experience, you will now hike to the top of the falls viewpoint to see, hear and feel the falls roaring. You will reach the breathtaking point where John Speke stood to affirm that Uganda is indeed the Pearl of Africa. You will hike at these falls and enjoy the stunning beauty of Uganda. Nature and animals as you contemplate the rapids of the amazing river Nile forcing in a 7 meters gorge falling more than 40 meters deep. You will return to your lodge for lunch and sign out.

After this amazing Adventure, you will embark on the journey to Kibale Forest National Park where you will arrive and check in your lodge.

Day 5: Kibale Forest National Park – Chimpanzee Trekking and visit Bigodi Swamp

Chimpanzee Trekking

The Day will start with an early morning heavy breakfast and then you will proceed to the briefing point by your guide. This is where you will be told about the dos and don’ts before you start off your trekking journey. This briefing is done by the professional game rangers and they make sure that you get the best experience with the primates.

After the briefing, you will start off the trekking to look for chimpanzees in the forests. The Park has more than 13 primates. However you will also encounter other primates like black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, Olive baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys. This exercise depends on where you find these primates because nature can be unpredictable in its own way. Upon finding them, you will spend one full hour with them. In the presence of the professional game ranger, you will have a lot to learn about their behaviors and way of Life. You will return to the lodge for lunch and get ready for the evening.

Bigodi Swamp

Later, you will embark on a nature in Bigodi swamp which is a guided walk. Yow will be able to spot some of the primates like monkeys when their sneaking into the gardens to steal bananas and maize from the farms. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Evening Game Drive

Wake up to an early morning breakfast, there after you will be picked up by our driver guide and begin your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park the medley of wonders. The park is known to be the most diverse national park in Uganda. You will arrive and check in your lodge and have lunch. Relax as you prepare for the evening game drive.

Afterwards, you will set out for an evening game drive in Kasenyi plains. During the game drive, you will encounter animals like buffaloes, leopards, bush pigs, and some bird species like swamp flycatcher, Marital eagle, shoe bill, Black bee eaters etc. you will take photos during the experience for memory. After the activity, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Morning Game Drive and Afternoon boat cruise on Kazinga Channel

Morning Game Drive

Wake up early in the morning and start your day with a heavy delicious breakfast after prepare for the morning game drive. The game drive takes place in Kasenyi plains where you will get an opportunity to see buffaloes, leopards, bush pigs, and some bird species like swamp flycatcher, Marital eagle, shoe bill, Black bee eaters etc. You will also get a chance to take photos of these animals. Thereafter you will get back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.

Afternoon boat cruise on Kazinga Channel

After lunch, you will go for a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel, while on the boat you will be able to sight animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks etc. and bird species like African Jacana, African skimmer, rare shoe bill etc. and other attractions of the park. After this experience, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park via Ishasha sector for Tree climbing Lions

Upon waking up in the morning, you will have a delicious breakfast then after check out from the lodge. You will start your journey to Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park is famous because of the tree climbing lions and this attraction is eye catching hence leaving you satisfied with the activity. You will also search for topis, monkeys, leopards etc.

Thereafter, you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which is located in the South West of Uganda in Kanungu District. You will enjoy the scenic landscape and the beautiful hills of Kigezi region. Upon arrival, you will check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Community Encounter

Wake up early in the morning and have a hot breakfast, You will be driven to the starting point for a briefing on the Do’s and the Don’ts by a park ranger who will guide you during the trek, the trek takes about 1 to 7 hours depending on their location. You will learn a lot about their Lifestyle and behaviors. Gorillas stay in families and you will therefore have a chance to visit one of these families. As nature is unpredictable, you will look for these primates in the forest. You are advised to carrying drinking water and snacks to keep you hydrated and strong. After the experience, you will return back to your accommodation for lunch.

Later in the evening, you will go for the community experience where you will encounter the Batwa community .You will learn about their way of living, cultures, dances, food and the traditional healing the sick using herbs among others. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park – Morning Nature walk and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

On this last day in Bwindi the home of gorillas, you will have breakfast and then take a nature walk near your lodge as you prepare for the transfer. You will check out from the lodge and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation. Upon arrive in Lake Bunyonyi, you will check into your lodge and have lunch. You will take afternoon rest and get ready for evening canoeing on Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 11: Boat experience on Lake Bunyonyi and transfer to Lake Mburo national park

You will wake up in the morning and have a heavy breakfast as you prepare for the canoe to visit the Lake Bunyonyi islands. Punishment Island is one of the historical islands where girls who could get pregnant before marriage were left to starve to death. You will also encounter the locals in these islands as you explore this second deepest lake in Africa.

Then check out from your lodge and transfer to Lake Mburo national park. You will reach the park and check in to your lodge for lunch and afternoon relaxation as you prepare for the evening game drive.

Day 12: Mburo national Park – Morning Game drive – Afternoon Boat cruise

You will wake up early in the morning for a heavy breakfast. Then move out for game drive in the park trails where you will sight mammals like Impalas, elands, topis, giraffes, zebras etc. you will take lots of photos hence creating memories.

You will then enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo. You will sight different animals like buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks etc. as well as birds like bare chested go away, Red faced barbet, African fin foot along the lake. Return to your lodge for lunch and get ready for horseback riding or mountain biking depending on your choice.

Day 13: Lake Mburo National Park – Game drive and transfer to Kampala

You will check out from your lodge and start with a game drive as you drive towards exiting the park. Still be able to sight different birds like bare chested go away, Red faced barbet, African fin foot and animals like Antelopes, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, on your way in case you missed any. Have a stopover at the Equator line in Masaka where you will take photos, buy souvenirs and experience the equator. Proceed to Kampala and check in at your hotel for lunch and afternoon relaxation.

Day 14: Kampala city tour – historical sites and local market

On this 14th day of your 16 days Discover Safari Uganda, you will immerse into the city life of Kampala. You will start the day by visiting Kasubi royal tombs, the burial ground for the late kings of Buganda and a world heritage site and Kabaka’s palace.

Your city tour will also lead you to religious sites of the Uganda national mosque also known as Gadhafi mosque and to the famous Namugongo martyrs shrine, a home to the Uganda martyrs. You will have lunch and then proceed to Kalerwe or Nakasero market for the encounter with the local venders. You will have a sight on the fresh fruits of Uganda which are available throughout the year.

Day 15: Transfer to Entebbe – city tour

Wake up early in the morning and have a delicious breakfast and transfer to the nearby city of Entebbe where you will explore the attractions like visiting the UWEC known as Entebbe Zoo. This conservation center is a backup in a way that, if you miss out any animal in the wild, you will sight it here. It’s now exciting with the introduction of two tigers which can now be sighted just few meters in the cage.

You will have lunch and then proceed to the Botanical gardens or to the beach of your choice. Then you will end the day with a dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 16: Tour on Lake Victoria and airport transfer

You will take a speed boat to the equator line in the middle of the lake where you will have some photos with the great lake view. You will return to your lodge and then be transferred to the airport as you conclude your 16 days Discover Uganda safari.
