Volcanoes National Park

The trip starts Volcanoes National Park located in Northern Province in Musanze. The park is a home to various Wildlife species like Forest Elephants, buffalos, black fronted duikers, bushbucks, bush pigs, spotted hyenas, black and white colobus, white colobus, baboons, red-tailed monkeys etc. It has 178 birds like Rwenzori turaco and Rwenzori batis, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, strange weaver and Archer’s robin-chat, White-collared Olive back etc.

Akagera National Park

Thereafter, you will proceed to Akagera National Park one of the oldest parks on the African continent and the largest national park in Rwanda. The park was gazetted as a national park in 1934 and sits on an area of 1,122 sq. kms. The park harbors 13500 mammals including the Big Five animals (Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants, and Buffaloes). Other mammals include giraffe, zebras, hyenas, bushbucks, Oribis, water-buck etc. It has 500 birds like African fish eagle, shoebill, papyrus Gonolek, African Wattled Plover, Giant Kingfisher etc.

Nyungwe National Park

From there, you will proceed to Nyungwe National Park which is Africa’s largest Afro- Montane forest. It is located in the South Western region of Rwanda and it borders Burundi. The park is famous for chimpanzee trekking and it has 2 habituated families, one having 60 chimpanzees and the other has 30 chimpanzees. The harbors 80 mammals like duikers, golden cats, duikers, Klipspringer, impalas, Bushbucks, Buffaloes, Elephants, Bush pigs, Gant forest hog, Blotched serval etc. Primates like Blue monkey, Golden monkeys, olive baboons, Red-tailed monkey, Vervet monkey, Grey-cheeked mangabey etc.

Itinerary

This 10 Days Rwanda Full Exploration Trip covers the beautiful Kigali city, Volcanoes National Park, Akagera National Park and Nyungwe National Park allowing you to experience the various landscapes, wildlife and culture of Rwanda. Kigali is a lively city known to the most organized and clean in Africa. You will explore different parts of this city and its people. Visit the genocide memorial, local markets and shops and cultural sites.
Day 1 of 10 Days Rwanda Full Exploration Trip will start with a pick up from Kigali International Airport by Our professional driver guide from Mutanda Gorilla Tours who will meet and greet you. He will brief you about your 10 Days Rwanda Full Exploration Trip. He will transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. You will relax and recover from your long hours of flight. Dinner and overnight Stay. Rise up early morning for a hot breakfast on your 2nd day of the 10 Days Rwanda Full Exploration Trip, you will be picked from your lodge by our guide and go for city tour. You will visit local markets and craft shops around Kigali. Have time to interact with the venders and learn more about their way of trading and bargaining. You will have lunch and then visit Kigali genocide memorial site. This is a historical site where you learn about the blood shade of 1994 genocide and learn about the way the country is copying with the tragedy. After breakfast in the morning, you will embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park which is 2-3 hours’ drive by road from Kigali. Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Later in the Afternoon, you will visit the Dian Fossey tomb who is famous to be a gorilla friend and dedicated her life to gorillas and research. After this experience, you will return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight. On this day, you will wake up to a delicious breakfast and then proceed to the park’s headquarters for briefing before the gorilla trekking starts. Here, you will be assigned several rangers and trackers to search within the bamboos for the mountain gorillas and once spotted you are allowed to spend only an hour with them. The tracking depends on the location of the gorillas as you know that nature is unpredictable. After the tracking, the guide will drive you back to the lodge for lunch and refreshment and then in the evening, you will go for cultural encounters at the Iby’Iwacu cultural village for the Kinyarwanda song, dances, and culture. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Wakeup early in the morning for a delicious breakfast and Start the day with an early morning trek to observe the rare golden monkeys. These monkeys are endangered species because they can only be trekked in this Virunga volcanic mountains only. After this amazing experience, you will return to your lodge for lunch and check out as you get ready for an exciting drive to Nyungwe National park as it takes about 6-7 hours to reach the park. On your arrival, you will check in at your lodge and have evening relaxation. Dinner and overnight. On this 6th day your trip, you will have an early morning breakfast and then proceed to the park headquarter for briefing before the chimpanzee trekking starts. Here you will be given ranger guides and trackers that will take you to the forest for the chimpanzee trekking. After allocating the chimpanzees, you will be allowed to spend only one hour with the chimpanzees and don’t forget that chimpanzee trekking is quite an active activity compared to gorilla trekking. After the trekking, you will go back to the lodge for hot lunch and refreshing yourself. In the Afternoon, you will head out for tea plantation tour at the Gisakura tea plantation where you will have a chance to taste the best local black tea and also interact with the different tea workers. While at the Gisakura tea plantation you will also have a chance to see the happy members of the colobus monkeys that crib in the forest in the middle of the tea plantation. Day 7 of out 10 days Rwanda full exploration trip, you will enjoy a hot breakfast alongside the morning sunrise. Afterwards, you will drive to the Uwinka reception center for the canopy walk. During this amazing walking exercise, you will enjoy the great view of the forest on the 50 meters above walkway with over 200meter walkways being entertained by the birds and plenty of primates playing in the trees. After the canopy, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the forest and the tea plantations as the guide drives you back to the lodge for lunch. After you will transfer to Akagera National Park for more amazing adventure and relaxation. On this day, you will wake up to a hot breakfast and then head out for a morning game drive where you have a chance to see leopards, lions, buffalos, zebras, and many more. This is the suitable time to spot the predators in action. After enjoying the morning game drive, you will return to the lodge for refreshment and then lunch. Meanwhile, After Lunch, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see the hippos, crocodiles, and the different water birds that include the African fish eagle, cormorants, and many more. Then After the boat cruise, you will head back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. For early morning game drive, you will leave the lodge with a packed breakfast and go for game drive. Have lunch and lunch and then relax in the evening as you are reaching the end of your 10 days Rwanda full exploration trip. You can still use the evening time to have more exploration of Kigali city.
