7 Day Explore Rwanda & Gorilla Tracking

The 7 Days Explore Rwanda & Gorilla Tracking Safari will take you to the land of Thousand hills.  Rwanda is a beautiful country with a pleasant climate and diverse landscapes, including volcanoes, mountains, rainforests, and lakes. You will visit Kigali city, volcanoes national park, Lake Kivu and Akagera National Park. You will visit Volcanoes National Park located in Northern Province in Musanze. The park is a home to various Wildlife species like Forest Elephants, buffalos, black fronted duikers, bushbucks, bush pigs, spotted hyenas, black and white colobus, white colobus, baboons, red-tailed monkeys etc.

It has 178 birds like Rwenzori turaco and Rwenzori batis, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, strange weaver and Archer’s robin-chat, White-collared Olive back etc. After there, you will proceed Lake Kivu one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the DRC and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. Lake Kivu empties into the Ruzizi River, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika.

Akagera National Park one of the oldest parks on the African continent and the largest national park in Rwanda. The park was gazetted as a national park in 1934 and sits on an area of 1,122 sq. kms. The park harbors 13500 mammals including the Big Five animals (Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants, and Buffaloes). Other mammals include giraffe, zebras, hyenas, bushbucks, Oribis, water-buck etc. It has 500 birds like African fish eagle, shoebill, papyrus Gonolek, African Wattled Plover, Giant Kingfisher etc.

 

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport – Kigali City – Transfer to your hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, Day 1 out of 7 Days Explore Rwanda & Gorilla Tracking Safari will start with a pickup by our professional driver guide from Mutanda gorilla tours who will welcome you at the airport.  he will then brief you about the 7 Days Explore Rwanda & Gorilla Tracking Safari that you will start with a city tour in Kigali where you will visit the different places like museums, local markets, and genocide sites. He will then transfer you to your hotel for check-in and rest as you acclimatize well to the local time and environment. Dinner and Overnight Stay.

Day 2: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park – Cultural Encounter

Day 2 out of 7 Days Explore Rwanda & Gorilla Tracking Safari starts with a delicious breakfast at your hotel and then embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes about approximately 2-3 hours. Upon arrival, you will check in at your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon you will visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, it gives you a rare chance to meet local people in their environment, a taste of their culture and traditions.  You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla trekking

On this day, you will wake up early morning for a hot breakfast and then get transferred to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing. You will then go in search of the gorillas in the forests. Gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park can take up to 5 hours depending on the location of the day where they are feeding from. After locating them, you will spend on full hour in their presence with a ranger guide. Later in the afternoon, you will use the time to relax at your lodge or get into optional activities like visiting the Dian Fossey grave or hiking mount Bisoke.

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – Golden Monkey Trekking – Transfer to Lake Kivu

Wakeup early in the morning for a delicious breakfast and Start the day with an early morning trek to observe the rare golden monkeys. These monkeys are endangered species because they can only be trekked in this Virunga volcanic mountains only. After this amazing experience, you will return to your lodge for lunch and check out as you get ready for an exciting drive to Lake Kivu which is approximately 2-3 hours. You will relax by the lakeside or explore nearby towns Dinner and Overnight Stay.

Day 5: Lake Kivu – Boat ride

Day 5 of the 7 Days Explore Rwanda & Gorilla tracking will start with a hot breakfast alongside the morning sunrise. This day is mainly a relaxing day by Lake Kivu. You will take a boat ride on the lake to appreciate the stunning landscape and the hills. Also explore the local fishing villages, visit hot springs, or explore local markets as optional activities. Have overnight and dinner at your lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Arise in the morning for a delicious breakfast and then drive to Akagera National Park which is approximately 4-5 hours by road. On your arrival, you will check in at your lodge. Later in the evening, you will get ready for evening game drive in Akagera National Park. Where you will encounter elephants, lions, giraffes, and various antelope species. This is a home to the big five of lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffaloes. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Akagera National Park – Morning Game drive – Boat Cruise on Lake Ihema- Transfer to Kigali International Airport

On the last day of the7 Days Explore Rwanda & Gorilla tracking, you will wake up early for a hot breakfast and then proceed for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park where you will encounter all the big five on a lucky day and other wildlife. After you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see the hippos, crocodiles, water bucks and the different water birds that include the African fish eagle, cormorants, marabou stork, herons, open billed stork and many more. You will return to your lodge for lunch and get ready for road transfer back to Kigali. You will go to Kigali International Airport or hotel and this marks the end of your 7 day explore Rwanda and gorilla tracking safari.
